Ron Jaworski and SAFR Make Philly Football Safer for Every Student-Athlete

Ron Jaworski Teams Up with SAFR and ISAA to Make Philadelphia High School Football Safer

Equipping every Philadelphia high school football player with a SAFR Helmet Cover — removing economic barriers to safety. Press conference set for July 15 at Chickie’s & Pete’s Roosevelt Blvd

PHILADELPHIA — July 11, 2025— SAFR Helmet Covers is teaming up with Eagles legend Ron Jaworski to launch a first of its kind campaign “We Made Philadelphia Football SAFR” to provide student-athletes concussion protection and education. Beginning this fall, 2,100 high school football players across all Public and Catholic High Schools in Philadelphia will be equipped with SAFR’s patented Helmet Covers.

“Partnering with Ron Jaworski is an incredible honor for SAFR,” says John Zeglinski, SAFR CEO and former Catholic League player. “His leadership and dedication to youth sports align perfectly with our mission to protect the next generation of athletes.”

The campaign will officially kick off at a press conference Tuesday, July 15, at 2 p.m. at Chickie’s & Pete’s Crab House and Sports Bar, 11000 Roosevelt Blvd., Philadelphia. Jaworski, the keynote speaker, brings personal relevance to the issue, having sustained several concussions during his youth, and 17-season NFL career.

To maximize their impact, SAFR has proudly partnered with ISAA (International Student Athlete Academy) a 501c3 nonprofit organization committed to inspiring grit, encouraging integrity, and instilling confidence through youth sports. This partnership ensures that every sponsorship and donation is 100% tax deductible and directly supports local teams, players, and coaches.

“I looked at SAFR’s materials and believe they have something very special,” Jaworski said.

According to national estimates, there are 1.6 million to 3.8 million youth sports-related concussions reported annually, with up to 80 percent potentially going unreported.

Concussions are believed to account for as much as 8.9 percent of high school sports injuries. SAFR Football Helmet Covers reduce the external blunt force that can cause traumatic brain injuries.

SAFR’s technology has been independently tested and has been proven to be the premier product for college, high school and youth football.

In 2021, following the Virginia Tech (VT) Helmet Lab test results indicating SAFR’s excellent safety benefits, VT immediately purchased covers for the whole team.

In 2024, a clinical on-field study showed that teams who used the SAFR Helmet Cover experienced a 48 percent reduction in injuries year-over-year, while those without SAFR gear saw a 34 percent increase in concussions.

Last season a student at Archbishop Ryan High School in Philadelphia was able to walk off the field after a major hit while wearing a SAFR Helmet Cover — a stark contrast to an opposing player not wearing the cover, who was hospitalized. A video testimonial explains why this mission matters.

“Our mission is simple — we want BOTH players to walk off the field after a big hit,” said Zeglinski. “Football should be tough, but it should also be safe. We’re proud to bring this movement to Philadelphia first.”

The fundraising effort will culminate in a high-profile charity golf outing this September, where sponsors, local leaders and supporters will come together to celebrate the impact of the initiative and fuel future expansion.

“This initiative goes beyond the game—it’s about equity, protection, and opportunity,” says Carlos Bradley, SAFR’s Chairman of the Board and a former Public League player. “We’re ensuring every young athlete has the gear they need to play safely, confidently, and without limitations. I couldn’t be more excited about the impact this partnership will have on our city’s student-athletes.”
